Do everything you can to prepare for a natural disaster or an emergency - your pets depend on you!
Hurricanes generally allow us time to prepare; however, other natural disasters or man-made disasters can strike at any time. Even with advanced preparation, many important things can be overlooked. Pets are family too, so remember to include your pets in your emergency planning.
Pet preparedeness checklist
Prepare and plan ahead of a natural disaster or emergency to help keep your dog or cat as safe as possible:

Even with the best planning and preparation, there may be times in an emergency situation where you and your pet get separated. A microchip is the single most important gift you can give your pet to help increase your chances of being reunited with your dog or cat. If your family pet does not have microchip identification, consider these amazing reunion stories!
Rocco, a beagle from Queens, New York went missing in 2003. Five years later, Rocco was reunited with his family after animal control officials in Georgia identified him by his microchip! Brooke Burke, Season 7 champion of "Dancing with the Stars", had her chocolate lab, Jake, returned to her after he was lost for nine months. When the man who found and kept Jake took him in for a check-up, the veterinarian scanned for a microchip and began the reunion process. For a happy ending should your pet stray, have your pet microchipped as soon as possible. Are you in Cypress or the surrounding areas? Make an appointment at our animal hospital for your pet's exam, vaccines, heartworm & parasite preventative, dental cleaning and more. You can also schedule a time to have your dog or cat come in to get a microchip.

It’s a great piece of a detailed procedure for preparing our pets for an Emergency for an emergency. I liked how you suggested considering what disasters might be present based off where we live so we can plan accordingly. I personally believe that preparing our pet is similar to preparing our child. So, I will try to apply your concept, hope my pup will get a strong support.

Emergencies affect everyone, even animals. So when the unexpected happens, having an emergency plan for your furry friend is just as important as having a plan for you. Thank you for taking the time to write a great post!

There are several public shelters and motels that don't allow dogs. Before calamities and emergencies strike, be aware of a secure location where you may take your pets. To ensure that someone is available to care for or evacuate your pets if you are unable to do so, make arrangements with neighbors, friends, or family members. Keep your address and phone number up-to-date and provide contact details for an emergency contact outside of your immediate region. If you're unclear how to take care of your pet in an emergency, get in touch with your neighborhood emergency management office, animal shelter, or animal control agency to acquire extra guidance and information.

It got me when you suggested having our pets microchipped so that we can reunite with our dog or cat when they get lost. I will make sure that I invest in this when I have my own dog before this year ends. It's because I plan to look for beagle puppies for sale here in Missouri and buy one as a gift for myself, since it is my dream breed.

I love that you pointed out that microchipping is the best way to be reunited with our pets in emergency situations. I have been convinced to invest in this now that I just got a dog a week ago. It is a small breed, so it would definitely be hard to find if ever it somehow escaped my house or when it gets taken from me without my knowledge due to being an expensive breed.
